THE BRIEFHome office retreat.
Michelle's office is one of the most used rooms in her home. It is her workspace on remote days, and it is where she and her husband unwind, watch television, and spend quiet time together.
More than an office, the room is her personal retreat. She needed one space that could do both jobs well.
THE challenge
A small room, with
a big job.
Michelle’s office is small, but it carries significant responsibility. It had to support productivity, comfort, and daily living without feeling crowded or giving up function.
In a compact room, every furnishing has to earn its place. The layout had to make room for work and rest while still leaving space to move.
When one room holds both the workday and the evening, the workday rarely ends. The design had to give each its own place.
the CONCEPT
From work to leisure.
The design creates a warm, sophisticated room that transitions easily from day to evening.
Cream and charcoal linen sit against walnut, cognac leather, and brushed brass. Custom walnut built-ins hold the desk, storage, and media, and warm lighting adds depth to the wall after dark.
OUR APPROACH A room built
for work
01
Set the palette.
We proposed a color palette built for Michelle's office, its finishes, and its natural light, with guidance on how color moves through the room so it reads as one.
02
Plan every foot.
We evaluated the room's dimensions and traffic flow, then developed a layout that supports both work and relaxation, with every piece at scale for the space.
03
Layer the room.
We designed a custom two-person desk. sourced furniture, window treatments, lighting, and accessories, then layered material, texture, and color until the room felt personal and complete
the resultThe office now supports Michelle's workday and remains a warm, welcoming retreat long after the laptop is closed.
the revealThe same four walls, but different vibe.
Same room. Same square footage. More ways to enjoy it.
A thoughtful layout, a cohesive palette, built-ins, and layered lighting transformed this workspace into a room that feels just as inviting after hours. A place to focus during the day and unwind in the evening.
